The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University released prospective graduates, which in this period amounted to 72 people. At this release, resource persons from one of the oil palm plantation companies were also present who were ready to recruit graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture, Unud.
The event for the release of prospective graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University was held on Thursday (17/2/2022) at the Sudirman Campus, Denpasar. This activity is carried out in a hybrid way, or online and offline, attended by the dean, vice dean, study program coordinator, and prospective graduates. On this occasion, only one representative of prospective graduates from each study program attended in person, while most of the others took part online.
On that occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nyoman GedeUstriyana, M.M. reminding prospective graduates that they will face increasingly tough challenges outside of campus, especially during a pandemic like now. He hopes they will be able to adapt to changes in society.
“To prospective graduates, our hope is to be able to adapt to all changes that occur in society, and be able to play a role in any sector, according to your respective passions. Let's build the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University together, even though you are now outside the campus," said Prof. Ustriyana.
At this release, there were also speakers from one of the oil palm plantation companies, namely Best Agro International. According to Prof. Ustriyana, the presence of these resource persons is to motivate students to want to work in oil palm plantations. Not only providing motivation, Best Agro International has also started the recruitment process for prospective graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University.
“It turns out that our graduates who have been active in oil palm plantations have succeeded. It is proven that Mr. Eddy (Best Agro International) has now come to do the recruitment. That's why we specially invited him to provide motivation at the time of the release. The recruitment was carried out yesterday, and there are several agricultural graduates who are interested in taking part in oil palm plantations," explained Prof. Ustriyana.
Meanwhile, HR Strategic Manager of Best Agro International, Eddi Santoso, explained that Best Agro International is one of the companies that has oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan.
In his presentation, Eddi Santoso said that he had conducted a survey where the results showed that very few agricultural graduates were interested in working on plantations. Even though the opportunity is still very wide open, and the palm oil sector has proven to be very resilient in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis. Besides that, the income earned is also quite large, namely net income reaching Rp. 9 million per month for fresh graduates.
“Currently we need a lot of our plantaion staff located in Central Kalimantan, to jointly advance the world of palm oil in Indonesia. Opportunities to work in oil palm plantations are still very wide, the competition is few because not all agricultural graduates want to work in oil palm plantations. The palm oil industry itself is known for its resilience, be it a pandemic or an economic crisis. This of course will create a sense of security in our work. In addition, there are challenges, namely having to work in remote areas. Apart from having to adapt to local culture, there are also signal limitations that all telecommunication providers have not been able to achieve,” said Eddi Santoso.72 prospective graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University will then take part in the 146th graduation period of Udayana University on Saturday, 19 February 2022.
