Combination of Traditional Games in Mathematics Learning Program for Special Education Students
As an abstract science, learning mathematics for students with low intellectual abilities faces many challenges. Departing from these problems, the Kolekta Mathematics Student Creativity Program (PKM-PM) team from the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) moved to become a pioneer to create a mathematics learning program by applying the concept of embodied learning through a combination of traditional games engklek and snakes and ladders. The use of this interactive math learning media can help students with disabilities in understanding mathematical concepts.
Accompanied by Mrs. Ni Luh Indah Desira Swandi, S. Psi., M.Psi, Psychologist, the PKM-PM Kolekta FK Unud team consisting of Natania, Rugayya, Arra, Nandhita, and Sasa moved to show their concern for education for students with disabilities. The PKM-PM Kolekta Mathematics team carried out a community service program from 23 August to 4 October 2023 at SLB Negeri 3 Denpasar with the target of 10 4th grade students. the purpose of this program is to improve the understanding of students with disabilities of mathematical concepts, increase the enthusiasm of learning of students with disabilities, and improve the gross motor skills of students with disabilities through the concept of embodied learning. This program emphasizes the physical interaction of students with existing learning media.
This program succeeded in improving students' understanding of addition operations. Not only that, this program also had a positive impact in the social aspect, as the students in SLB Negeri 3 Denpasar had the opportunity to increase social interaction with the PKM-PM team, peers, and teachers involved.
Seeing how this program has a positive impact on students with disabilities in SLB Negeri 3 Denpasar, the PKM-PM team also hopes that this program can be applied in all special schools in Indonesia for the progress of the nation and state.
